What is NB Power offering?

NB Power is offering electric vehicle owners a turnkey sales and installation solution for home EV chargers. Currently this Package will provide site assessment and technical review, installation of a level 2 charging station by qualified contractors, exceptional service and an optional Repair and Replacement Plan.

Why should I purchase an EV charger from NB Power?

The package includes a quality product, professional installation and comes with a 1-year installation warranty and a 3-year product warranty. Eligible customers also have the flexibility to pay in 1 to 3 monthly installments on their NB Power bill.

Are there any eligibility criteria?

Currently the EV Home Charger Package is only available in Fredericton, Kennebecasis Valley, Grand Bay-Westfield and surrounding areas. Eligible customers need to be the homeowner, in good financial standing with NB Power and have a dedicated parking spot or garage.

What is the EV Home Charger Package Pricing?

Pricing starts as low as $999 (plus applicable taxes) but may increase depending on your installation conditions and rebate eligibility. See next FAQ on installation.

What factors impact level of installation complexity?

Installation costs are based on an assessment of your intended charger location. Distance from the electrical panel, type of breaker required and inside versus outside installation can affect the complexity of, and time required for installation. A technical assessment of your site will determine the level of complexity of the installation you may require and would be factored into your quote.

Why do I need an Electrical Wiring Permit for my EV Home Charger installation? How much does it cost to get the permit?

Electrical contractors in New Brunswick are required to obtain a wiring permit for electrical installations involving five or more kilowatts of added load. The “Grizzl-E” Level 2 EV Charger offered by NB Power exceeds this threshold. The cost to obtain this permit is $115.00. Is Grizzl-E charger on the approved EV charger list in NB for a rebate?

Yes, the Grizzl-E charger is on the NB approved EV chargers list. As a part of this package, NB Power can apply the rebate on behalf of qualifying customers.

How do I know if my home’s electrical configuration can handle an electric vehicle charging station?

Call NB Power at 1-800-663-6272 or email us and an advisor will help you assess your situation. After the evaluation, we will be able to let you know if any additional costs are required to update your electrical panel.

Is there a product warranty from the manufacturer?

The offered charger is covered by a 3-year replacement warranty. The Grizzl-E EV charger is made with high-quality components and goes through rigorous quality assurance throughout the production process. If any issue with the performance of the product arises, the manufacturer will replace it free of charge within 1-5 business days. The warranty will not apply if the product has been misused, abused, or altered. The warranty for the cable does not include normal tear and wear. Plugs that have been exposed to snow or water for a prolonged period of time are not covered by this warranty. The warranty will apply only if the charger is defective. The 3-year manufacturer warranty is not transferable and applies only to the first buyer/owner.

Can I buy a Repair and Replacement Plan?

NB Power is offering a Repair and Replacement Plan for your peace of mind at $4.99 per month. If enrolled at the time of installation, the customer will get a year free. The Plan covers the charger and labour due to any product defects or installation issues under normal operating conditions. The customer will have full warranty as long as they stay enrolled in the Plan on a month-to-month basis for up to 10 years. The customer can cancel their enrolment at any time.

Can the Grizzl-E charger work with all EVs?

Yes, the Grizzl-E charger will work with all Electric Vehicles and Plug-in Hybrid models. Tesla vehicles need to use a J1772 to Tesla adapter to work with the Grizzl-E charger.

What level of charging does the Grizzl-E EV charger provide?

Grizzl-E EV charger is a level 2 charging station. It provides between 16 Amps and 40 Amps of maximum continuous output to the EV or PHEV.

Do I need to use any apps or internet to use my charger? What is a free app I can use for home EV charging?

No, it is not required to have internet connection or an “App” to use the Grizzl-E charger. However, your smart charger can be Wi-Fi connected. Grizzl-E has partnered with ChargeLab as the default app for residential home charging (Click here Grizzl-E Smart set-up guide — ChargeLab). It is the customers responsibility to ensure there is Wi-Fi coverage at the charger location if they wish to use this capability.  The customer is responsible for the App, setup, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Is the EV charger made in Canada? Is the Grizzl-E certified for use in Canada?

Yes, the Grizzl-E charger is designed and built in Canada. It is engineered to be one of the toughest and longest lasting EV chargers and can withstand harsh weather conditions due to its air-tight NEMA 4 aluminium cast enclosure and premium cable. Yes, the Grizzl-E Charger is cUL certified.

Is this a bi-directional charger?

No, the charger currently being offered is not bi-directional.
