Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (PLNGS) participating in a one-day security exercise

2023-06-08

Fredericton, N.B. - The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (PLNGS) will be participating in a one-day security exercise on June 8, 2023.

The exercise will involve the Point Lepreau Nuclear Response Force team as well as local, provincial and national emergency and police organizations.

The exercise will test security contingency procedures as required by the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and continue to confirm the Station’s readiness for the unlikely event of an incident. Residents may see emergency response vehicles in the community and hear radio communications simulating a security event at the Station.

“The purpose of this exercise is to measure the effectiveness of our security emergency response plan and verify that all components of the plan are in place.  Exercises of this nature continue to confirm that we maintain a state of readiness at the Station in the unlikely event of a security emergency” said Eric Keenan, for the Point Lepreau Generating Station.  “We are pleased to work collaboratively with Emergency Services representatives from all around the province  and from the nuclear industry to exercise our security plans.”

The insights gained from this exercise will continue to inform ongoing efforts to further enhance security protocols, emergency response capabilities, and maintain the continued protection of the facility and the surrounding environment.
