NB Power inviting interested New Brunswickers to submit Expression of Interest for Wind, Solar, Tidal Power and Storage Solutions

2023-02-10

FREDERICTON, NB – NB Power is issuing a Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI) to invite interested New Brunswickers to submit wind, solar, tidal power and storage solutions proposals.

The REOI allows for the production of up 220 megawatts of electricity from renewable resources and up to 50 megawatts of energy storage. The generation, if cost-effective, will be added to the NB Power system, with the expectation to be in operation by July 2027.

NB Power has been a leader in emission reduction for many years. Adding new renewable energy and energy storage solutions further demonstrates the leadership role the company plays in helping New Brunswick transition to a low-carbon economy.

“This is a very exciting step for NB Power as we make greater strides towards decarbonization and adding more flexibility to our generation assets,” said Lori Clark, President and CEO of NB Power. “Seeking additional cost-effective renewable energy and storage solutions aligns with our goal to transform the electricity system in New Brunswick to bring customers greater value and services. It will be an important addition to our grid as we find solutions to increase beyond our current 80 per cent carbon-free electricity for New Brunswickers.”

Through the Request for Expression of Interest, NB Power expects to broaden the inclusion and participation of diverse organizations in the energy sector to transition toward a net zero electricity system in 2035. NB Power also anticipates that the proposals will create business opportunities, jobs and expertise in the energy sector.

“Our Government’s Pathway Towards Decarbonization and Climate Resilience outlines the need to support economically sustainable renewable energy as well as provide storage solutions, “said Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Development, Mike Holland. “Inviting companies to submit expressions of interest will help our province move toward powering our economy and the world with clean energy, while taking advantage of opportunities to continue developing the low-carbon economy.”

Details about NB Power’s Request for Expression of Interest can be obtained from the New Brunswick Opportunities Network website at https://nbon-rpanb.gnb.ca.

Expressions of Interest must be submitted electronically by April 28, 2023. Questions can be emailed to alltenders@nbpower.com or sent by fax to 506-458-4089.
