NB Power makes real-time Mactaquac headpond water levels available online

2021-04-28

Fredericton N.B – NB Power announced today that it will put real-time water levels of the Mactaquac headpond on its website.

“We are pleased to be able to provide this service, which will be especially helpful for boaters, people who have docks along the river above the headpond, as well as, recreational fishers and others who can benefit from this information,” said Phil Landry, Executive Director of Generation and Engineering for NB Power.

The normal headpond operating level is between 133 – 128 Ft.  These levels can fluctuate daily depending on system load requirements and current river flows.

During especially hot and dry summer months or when unplanned maintenance or repairs are needed, the headpond can be lowered below 128 Ft and NB Power does everything possible to advise the public in advance before operating outside of its normal operating limits.

A low level is especially important to boaters and to those who have docks along the river because depending on the topography of the riverbed, home and cottage owners often take precautions to assure they take into account a drop in levels.
