Project Director, Mactaquac Life Achievement Project

Location: Fredericton, NB.

NB Power, a Crown Corporation owned by the Province of New Brunswick, is the largest electric utility in Atlantic Canada. The utility generates electricity at 14 facilities and delivers power to 400,000 direct and indirect customers.

Operating since 1968, the Mactaquac Generating Station is a run of the river hydro facility supplying about 12 per cent of New Brunswick homes and businesses with clean, low-cost power. NB Power is undertaking a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar project, known as the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project (MLAP), to ensure that the station can operate to its intended 100-year lifespan through a modified approach to maintenance, infrastructure renewal and asset management.

It is within this exciting context that NB Power is seeking its next Project Director, Mactaquac Life Achievement Project.

The Project Director is an executive management level position providing strategic leadership on the execution of the MLAP. The Project Director has overall responsibility for the execution of the Civil Works and the Turbine & Generator (T&G) Works contracts as well as any/all other MLAP contracted works on-site. Working primarily out of HQ but with regular onsite leadership, the Project Director manages a fully dedicated integrated team of NB Power staff (direct and matrixed) and external consultants with responsibility for the execution and commissioning of the MLAP.

As an ideal candidate, you bring a university degree in engineering combined with 15+ years of senior level construction project management experience with substantial leadership experience. A P.Eng, PMP or similar designation is preferred though an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. You must have previous experience leading large, complex, high-profile, multi‐partnered construction projects as well as experience with multiple delivery models. NB Power will benefit from your deep knowledge of and experience in large heavy civil public works infrastructure projects delivered in highly regulated environments. Previous hydropower project experience is a considerable asset.

You are an outstanding communicator, facilitator and presenter who is politically astute and brings demonstrated skill interfacing with varying levels of business, government authorities and the general public. Previous experience engaging with First Nations communities is a strong asset. A collaborative and inclusive leader, you are skilled at motivating and developing teams that are agile, responsive, and highly customer centric.
