April 1, 2025 - NB Power Statement on Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) Administrative Penalty
NB Power prioritizes safety in all its activities for the protection and well-being of our people, public and the environment.
While the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station has an excellent safety record, recently, we did not fully meet the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) requirements as it relates to hours of work aspects of REGDOC 2.2.4, Managing Worker Fatigue. This has resulted in an administrative penalty being issued by the CNSC.
As Point Lepreau presented to the CNSC Commission in a February 2025 meeting, this issue arose due to the timeliness of addressing the hours-of-work implementation process. It is important to note that these findings pose no risk to the safety of our employees, the public, or the environment. It is strictly an administrative matter related to compliance with regulatory documentation.
NB Power holds compliance to our operating licence and its conditions in the highest regard. NB Power takes any non-compliance very seriously and has been actively working to correct it. This has included a Station-wide initiative to ensure requirements on hours-of-work are fully understood within the organization, along with a continued focus to enhance the scheduling software program.
NB Power places the highest regard and utmost priority on the safety of people, the environment, and compliance with regulatory requirements. We continuously seek opportunities for improvement at Point Lepreau everyday.
