NB Power issues second quarter financial and operating results

Fredericton – NB Power’s financial and operating results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2019/20, issued today, show operating earnings of $107 million for the six-month period, an increase of $5 million, or five per cent over the same period last year.

Export sales continued to be strong during the quarter, at $209 million – or 97 per cent higher than the previous year. In province sales were also $17 million higher than the same period last year, or three per cent higher.

Operational highlights during the quarter included:

• began the approval process for a new transmission line for the Fredericton area to improve reliability for 25,000 customers
• started installing 1,600 bird diverters on lines in the ecologically sensitive Sackville region, as part of important maintenance upgrades to the 25 kilometres of transmission lines
• made good progress on the continued research work into small modular nuclear reactors
